Every year over Pioneer Day weekend (July 24), the LDS Church puts on a concert featuring the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and a special guest performer. I’ve never been to one of these, but have always wanted to go. This year it happened!
This year The King’s Singers, a British a cappella group, were the guests, and wow! They were so good! It made me want to find more of their music. They sang some songs with the Tabernacle Choir and each group sang a few of their own songs.
All of the songs were folk songs from Britain or the United States. Of course, they were all beautiful. But, my favorite was a medley of Primary songs. Apparently, the piece was written by someone who works at BYU. When The King’s Singers put on a concert there, the employee wrote the song in remembrance of his Primary-aged son who had recently passed away. It was great and got a standing ovation at the concert we were at.
Here’s a video of the medley:
We loved the concert and will definitely try to go again in future years!
